WHAT IS THE STATE OF HYPNOSIS?

Before undergoing hypnotherapy, it may be very helpful to have a basic understanding of what the state of hypnosis is. Little of what is portrayed in so-called "stage hypnosis", is in fact hypnosis. Unfortunately many misperceptions are created by these 'power men' on stage, causing patients to be either afraid of undergoing hypnotherapy or to expect it to be a miracle cure for their symptoms.
The purpose of the stage 'hypnotist' is to ENTERTAIN, and not to HEAL! They will therefore do all they can to ENTERTAIN, by creating cleverly orchestrated, hilarious situations to trick the audience into believing that the 'hypnotist' has full control over the subjects by getting them into his 'power', putting them in a 'deep sleep', and making them behave in bizarre ways. The impression is further created that the subjects have no control over what they do; and that they are not aware of what they do; and they are not able to remember afterwards what they have done in 'hypnosis'. The truth is that subjects, in fact, often experience it as such, because that is what they believe they should experience. Their experience of the situation is therefore controlled by their own expectations and the power of their own imaginative involvement in the situation, and not by the 'power' of the 'hypnotist'. In fact, no human being has that amount of power or control over any other human being!!
